A nice impression on laid paper. 

Painter, engraver and watercolourist, Joseph-Victor Roux-Champion was introduced to the Jullian Academy and then to Gustave Moreau's studio where he met Georges Rouault, Albert Marquet and especially Henri Matisse. The discovery of the art of Paul Gauguin in the gallery Durand-Ruel led him to stay in Pont-Aven in 1896, a trip that was for him decisive. From 1904, Joseph-Victor often went to Provence where he met the painter Auguste Renoir in Cagnes-sur-Mer. He represented here the painter-engraver Maximilian Luce, who was one of the great representatives of the neo-impressionist movement.
