Impression on vellum, signed and dated in the plate, countersigned in pencil. Printed by A. Salmon & Ardail, Paris. State before the letter, with a remarque representing a leaf. 

Born in Limoges on August 11, 1837, Sadi Carnot was a statesman and president of the French Republic from 1887 to 1894, when he was assassinated by an Italian anarchist, Santo Caserio.

Son of the great printmaker Adolphe Ardail, Albert followed in Paris the teaching of the engraver Waltner. He used to make etchings and also practiced drypoint, woodcut and color engraving. He exhibited his works at the Salon from 1886 to 1914, interpretation prints and originals.
